What we do

AliExpress has over a billion products. Most of them are mediocre. Finding something genuinely good — at a genuinely good price — takes hours of digging, reading reviews, comparing prices across sellers, and figuring out which discounts are real and which are manufactured.

We built a system that does that work automatically. Every week, we ingest updated product feeds, filter out the junk, and hand-pick the best items into themed roundups. Each guide covers a specific category or use case — "best PLA filaments right now" rather than just "filaments."

The result: you land on a page with 9 carefully selected products, real prices, honest descriptions, and a direct link to buy. No fluff, no filler.

How we select products

We ingest the full product feed

Our system processes 148,000+ products across all major AliExpress categories — electronics, home, fashion, automotive, 3D printing, and more. Feeds are updated regularly to catch new products and price changes.

We filter hard

Products must have at least 2 unique photos, a descriptive title with enough information to write about, and either a verifiable discount of 2%+ or a competitive base price. Truncated titles, single-photo listings, and low-information products are excluded automatically.

AI picks the best diverse selection

For each roundup theme, an AI assistant selects 6–9 products that are genuinely different from each other — different brands, different price points, different use cases. No roundup is dominated by one seller or one brand variant.

We write honest descriptions

Each product gets a short, factual write-up based on what's actually in the product listing — no invented specs, no marketing copy. If a title has truncated words (a common AliExpress quirk), we fix them. If we can't say something meaningful about a product, it doesn't make the cut.

We review before publishing

Every roundup goes through a human review before it goes live. We check that the selection makes sense, the descriptions are accurate, and the links all work. Only then does it get published.

Real data, real discounts

We calculate discounts from actual price and listed old price. A 1% "discount" — which AliExpress uses to show a strikethrough price — doesn't count in our system.

AliExpress prices change constantly. We update our product database regularly and flag products that are no longer available rather than leaving dead links live.

This commission is how we keep the site running and free to use. It does not affect which products we feature. We do not accept payment for product placement, and we do not skew our selections based on commission rates. A product with a 10% commission rate gets no advantage over one with a 5% rate if the lower-commission product is the better buy.

Smart Choice Shop is an independent project — not a media company, not a funded startup. It's built and maintained by a small team interested in the practical side of e-commerce: finding good products, building efficient tools for product research, and writing about what we find.

We use AI tools extensively in our workflow — for processing product data, generating first drafts, and identifying patterns in large datasets. Everything that gets published is reviewed by a human. We think being transparent about this matters.
